CCLA Academic Goals for 2010/2011

Dear Parents,

Part of the plan for our school improvement is to implement school wide math fact, reading, and homework completion campaigns.

The goals are as follows:

  • 90% of students have mastered grade level math facts

  • 90% of students have read five days per week outside of class time

  • 90% of students turn in homework

Reading
We will continue with the “Ratón de la Biblioteca” campaign that was started last year. Starting October 4th, the goal is to read 50,000 hours by Spring Break! Check the thermometer outside of the library to see our growth! When the goal is reached, Mrs. Acuña and Mrs. Rocha will dress up like mice! For grades 4-8, once students have read 25,000 hours in Spanish and 180 million words in English, Mrs. Acuña and Mrs. Rocha will kiss a farm animal! For English reading in grades 4-8, there are also individual lexile goals. Check out our Data Wall outside the school office for more information.

Homework & Math Facts Grades K-5

Individual recognition
Students with 100% turn in and /or math fact memorization will receive a certificate at the Trimester assembly.

Group
Classrooms will earn certificates based on the following and receive a certificate which will also be announced at the Trimester assemblies.
100% of class turns in homework/masters math facts= Gold level/certificate
90% of class = Silver level/certificate
Up to 89% of class = Bronze level/certificate

Grades 6-8
We also have an exciting program to motivate students in 6-8th grade – “Club Academia”. Called “Renaissance Program” at some schools, this nationally recognized program acknowledges students for their achievement, attendance, and behavior.

Students will be recognized for the following and admitted into (or remain in) the Club each Trimester. They will also be able to change their status each Trimester.
GOLD: 4.0 GPA & No subject failures
SILVER: 3.0 – 3.9 GPA
BRONZE: 2.5 – 2.9 GPA WHITE: Improvement (Example: GPA went from a 1.0 to a 1.5) In addition, to qualify, students must not have...
• More than 2 absences per Trimester (unless it is for a medical reason)
• ANY discipline referrals
• More than 2 units of unexcused lateness (tardy) per marking period (Your parents dropping you off late is not an excused tardy!)

Perks and Rewards
• Students will be recognized at the Trimester assemblies.
• Every other Friday, they will be given treats such as popsicles, bagels, chips, etc. during their recess.
• Teacher Perks: Teachers can also create classroom perks for students in Club Academia – homework passes, preferential seating, etc.
• All students in Club Academia will receive a club t- shirt which can be worn as part of the uniform.

Thank you Cali PTA for offering to support us with Club Academia!
