MOVE-A-THON September 24, 2016
Cali PTA invites you to join us in supporting our 9th annual Move-a-thon. The theme is Around the World.
MOVE-A-THON IS A FUNDRAISER AND EVENT
The FREE event happens Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 2pm-5pm at the Cali gym and sports field.
Over 1,000 Cali students and their families participate in an afternoon of fitness activities: soccer, zumba, basketball, volleyball, yoga, taekwondo, and much more. It’s a great way to bring our Cali community together to have fun and to promote healthy lifestyle choices. All Cali students who attend will receive a free uniform approved t-shirt at the event.
The fundraising kicks-off with a rally for the students. Students gather pledges from family and friends and can win prizes for their participation. Pledge packets will be sent home the week of the rally. Please look for the packet in your child’s backpack.

Saturday, Sept. 24: Move-a-thon! Free Move-a-thon t-shirts will be handed out to all participants.

Friday, Oct. 7: Turn in pledge packets and money to teacher by this date to be eligible for prizes.
Friday, Oct. 14: All pledge money is due!
All students who participate in the Move-a-thon receive a free t-shirt! Students who cannot attend the Move-a-thon due to another athletic commitment can receive credit for the minutes spent on that sport and gather pledges if they provide a signed note from their coach. They can also receive a free Move-a-thon shirt by bringing the note to the volunteer room (#43) before school the week after the Move-a-thon (September 26 - 30).
WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?
This is Cali PTA’s major fundraiser that supports our school with field trips, assemblies, programs, library books, science supplies, sports equipment, Club Academia, lunchtime recess activities, teacher grants, and other general campus support.
Big purchases have included:
The new technology found in our classrooms—laptop computers for the teachers, LCD projectors, document readers. The play structure on the main playground. The electronic marquee at the front of the school.
LAST YEAR’S CHALLENGE
Last year, PTA and the school identified the need to improve the lunch area next to Room 50. This was a fairly big project that required removing an old planter box and tree stump; pouring a concrete slab under the tables so that the area can be easily sprayed with a hose; purchasing several new tables; and purchasing and installing a shade structure over the area. Over 200 students a day eat lunch and/or snack at these tables where the ground is always littered and there is no shade. We are still working on the shade, but the area is so much better!
THIS YEAR’S CHALLENGE
This year with your help, PTA will focus on improvements in our library! Help us reinvent Cali's library. New technology, more books, redesigned learning space... there is so much we can do!
THIS YEAR’S MOVE-A-THON GOAL: $50,000
This level of support will allow PTA to continue to fund ongoing school programs as well provide funding fpr the library.
PTA is asking each family to pledge at least $125. If you can donate more, please consider this as a great way to make a difference not just for your student, but for every student at Cali. Donations are tax deductible.
Last year we raised over $45,000, including $10,000 from Cali's Puente Education Foundation. It didn’t come from just a few big checks but from many smaller donations as well. 100% return of the pledge envelopes with some sort of donation big or small will help reach our goal and make great things happen for our Cali students.
